Download and Install Microsoft 365 (Office) Software
Use Microsoft 365 (Office) on your personally owned devices. You can download and install Microsoft 365 for free on up to five computers (Windows or macOS) and up to five mobile devices.
Important: Uninstall First
Warning: If you're installing Microsoft 365 (Office) on a computer with an existing Office version, you must uninstall Office before installing Microsoft 365. To avoid computer problems, use these resource links to uninstall Office.
Download Microsoft 365 (Office)
- Log in to microsoft365.com. For login details, see "Log in to Microsoft 365."
- Microsoft 365 Home appears. In the upper right, click or tap Install apps.
- A drop-down menu appears. Select "Microsoft 365 apps."
- A setup installer file downloads.
Install and Set Up Microsoft 365 (Office)

Important: Be sure you have uninstalled any existing Office versions from your computer. See "Uninstall Microsoft Office for Windows" and "Uninstall Office for Mac."
- After download is complete, open the Microsoft 365 setup installer. Most web browsers include a download indicator at the bottom or top of the browser window for you to open the installer.
- Installation begins. You may need to wait for the Microsoft 365 installer to download more files.
Windows Users: If prompted to allow the app to make changes to your device, select "Yes."
macOS Users: If you receive an error message stating Microsoft 365 "cannot be installed because it was not downloaded from the Mac App store," follow these instructions.
- macOS V12 (Monterey) and earlier: Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General tab. Under the header "Allow applications downloaded from," select "Mac App Store and identified developers." Close the preferences window. Relaunch the installer.
- macOS V13 (Ventura) and later: Go to Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Scroll to Security Section. Under the header "Allow applications downloaded from," select "Mac App Store and identified developers." Close the preferences window. Relaunch the installer.

- Microsoft 365 installs and notifies you when complete. Exit the installer.
- Open a Microsoft 365 app.
Windows Users: Select the Start button and type the name of a Microsoft 365 app, such as Word. Open the app.
macOS Users: Go to the Finder. From the menu bar, select Go > Applications. The Applications folder appears. Double-click a Microsoft 365 application, such as Microsoft Word.
- When prompted to sign in, enter your @marquette.edu email address and password. If your login is successful, you are prompted to start using the app.
- The Microsoft 365 app you selected, such as Microsoft Word, opens for use. All other Microsoft 365 apps are registered for use.
You've installed Microsoft 365 on your computer.
