For Windows Users: Installing, Updating, and Using Java Applets with MyJob
These instructions are for Windows users. (See macOS instructions.) Some MyJob responsibilities — such as MyJob Campus Directory — need special access. After you gain access, you reach Oracle forms with a Java applet.
To run Java applets from MyJob, Windows users must have Java installed.
For Java, you need the free Java SE Runtime Environment 8 (JRE8) software for Windows. If your device has more recent versions of Java, JRE8 is still required for MyJob Oracle forms. Note that Oracle deprecated Java applets in JRE9 and eliminated them in JRE11.
Installing Java
- Find out if you already have Java software installed. From Windows, select the Start Menu. Then search for Java.
If your search displays Java apps installed, similar to the screenshot above, skip to the "Updating Java" section.
- If your search lists no Java apps, go to the Download 64-bit Java for Windows website.
- Click or tap the Download Java button.
- An ".exe file" starting with "jre" downloads. Go to your Downloads folder.
- Double-click or double-tap the "jre" .exe file.
- The "Java Setup Welcome" screen appears. Click or tap the Install button.
- Follow the prompts to install Java 8.
- If you encounter installation trouble, report a Computer Support issue to the IT Services TechSquad.
Updating Java
If you can no longer reach the Oracle form from MyJob, check for a Java update.
- From Windows, select the Start Menu. Then search for check for updates.
- Open the "Check For Updates" Java app.
- The "Java Control Panel" window appears with the "Update" tab selected. Click or tap the Update Now button.
- Allow Java to update by following the prompts. If you encounter updating trouble with Java, report a Computer Support issue to the IT Services TechSquad.
- Quit and relaunch your web browser. Then try logging in to MyJob again.
