How to Import and Export Web Browser Bookmarks and Favorites

If you need to move your Bookmarks and Favorites to a new computer, follow the steps below for the browser you use:

Firefox

To transfer bookmarks from Firefox to another computer, you can export the bookmarks as an HTML file and then import them to the new computer

Export bookmarks

Open Firefox
Click Bookmarks
Click Show All Bookmarks
Click Import and Backup
Click Export Bookmarks to HTML
Chose a save location and file name
Click Save

Import bookmarks

Open Firefox on the new computer
Click Bookmarks
Click Organize Bookmarks
Click Import and Backup
Click Import HTML
Select From an HTML File
Navigate to the saved HTML file

You can transfer the HTML file to the new computer using a USB key, email, or other method.

You can also restore boomarks from a backup file. Using a backup file will replace all of the bookmarks in Firefox with the ones in the backup file.

Chrome

To transfer bookmarks to Chrome, you can export them from the browser and then import them into Chrome. You can also sync your bookmarks across devices using your Google account.

Export bookmarks

Open Chrome
Open the Chrome menu
Go to Bookmark Manager
Clkick the Bookmark Menu Icon
Click Export Bookmarks
Choose a destination and save the file

Import bookmarks

Open Chrome
Select More in the top right corner
Select Bookmarks and lists
Select Import bookmarks and settings
Select Choose file
Select the file ti import and click Open

Sync bookmarks

Select Turn on sync
Sign in to the Google account you want to sync with
Select This was me to add your bookmarks

You can also transfer bookmarks using a flash drive or by attaching the bookmark file to an email.

Edge

To transfer bookmarks in Microsoft Edge, you can export them from one computer and import them to another. You can also sync your bookmarks across multiple devices.

Exporting bookmarks

Open Microsoft Edge
Click the Favorites icon in the upper right corner
Select Settings
Select Export favorites
Click Choose file
Save the favorites as an HTML file to your desktop

Importing bookmarks

Open Microsoft Edge
Select Settings and more
Select Favorites
Select More options
Select Import favorites
Choose the browser you want to import from
Select Favorites or bookmarks
Select Import
Select done when the import is complete

You can also sync your bookmarks across multiple devices by:

Clicking the profile icon on the top toolbar
Choosing an account
Clicking Sign in to sync data
Signing in with your preferred account
